Based on the computer hacking from the old Shadowrun game, Decker is just about the perfect roguelike. Randomly generated systems crawling with varied IC to deal with, multiple viable strategies for taking on the system, and leveling up not only increases abstract stat numbers, it increases the complexity of the game. Sure the graphics are ass, but Decker is a fantastic free experience with all the good points of roguelikes and none of the headaches.

But many thanks to FABIO for giving me the example I need to build a sounding-like-FABIO alarm in my head, because I'm hearing that ringing again. I mean really you could say such things about all manner of games! My first thought as to the remedy for this game's flaw is that it should have a deeper and more complex world, like Nethack ADOM yada yada yada. But I can't even finish those games! I play them until I don't even enjoy it anymore! A simple game is too limited; a complex game is too long. What is one to do, other than simply giving up games?

HERE COME THE JOKE ANSWERS maybe. Because it is too hard a question for Caltrops I think.

This is the best Tower Defense game of all time, but that's not really a fair description because it's akin to calling Half-Life the best Quake clone of all time. In terms of both gameplay and plot, Immortal Defense is head and shoulders above the bloated and simplistic tower defense subgenre. There's a huge assortment of towers to choose from without any "certain enemies are immune to tower type X" cop-outs to artificially increase variety, and there is much more to placement than maximizing the amount of path that lies within their firing ranges. I would rate this game's plot alongside "Planescape," and its themes of the foibles of immortality mixed with its minimal string soundtrack makes this the closest you'll probably ever get to a videogame adaptation of the movie "The Fountain."

Oh well this is one answer I guess. I was waiting for Immortal Defense to show up--what an awesome game! Paul Eres is like the good version of Senor Barborito. I mean in that he is a talented, game-making weirdo who is into immortality. Only in a good way. Incidentally I have an extra copy of this game--I recently bought Magi on your recommendation, and during the purchasing process I changed my PayPal e-mail address because it was wrong (due to the destruction of my wonderful respectableaddress.com Evil Email domain), but then the site thought I hadn't bought anything so I tried again but I ended up paying double the price somehow. And the Magi guy was like, get help from the salespeople, and the salespeople were like, talk to the Magi guy, and when I talked to him again he said he'd consulted with Paul Eres (his friend!) and they'd decided to give me Immortal Defense for my extra $20-ish. And I told him I already owned Immortal Defense and we all had a good laugh. :(

So anyway if you want my extra copy tell me and I will e-mail it to you or whatever. (I don't think there's any copy protection.) AND YOU SHOULD WANT IT because it is awesome.
