Ralph Baer wrote:
People ask me "Could you foresee how things would develop?" What a stupid question that is.
Can I foresee where biotechnology is going to get us? Or which of the 10,000 different approaches for converting biomass into fuel is finally going to win so we can tell the Arabs to go... [I think these dots are where Ralph Baer said "fuck themselves in their gook nigger vaginas" but GamesIndustry.biz demured -- Fussbett] It is impossible. You know what is going to happen, but the extent to which it is going to happen?
He hates the dissolution of the American family and also violence...
I dislike violence in games, but people seem to eat it up so it will always be with us.
I had Konami in here - the VP for, I think, product development came with a couple of Chinese factory people and I showed them a whole bunch of stuff... Like shooting at the screen not with a gun, but with a helmet with an optical eyesight inside so that you could home in on the target and yell in the mouthpiece "fire" and being able to fire.
(When you said "fire", the helmet's on-screen avatar (helmatar) would "shoot" babies at the target (the target was a cuddle))
On server-based gaming (I'm not kidding)...
I grew up in Nazi Germany, you know? What I'm afraid of is that it makes it all too easy for some cabal to take over. It can happen little by little, then all of a sudden in a hurry. We keep improving the means of controlling people because we have access to every thing they ever did and said.
You don't think it can happen here, think again.
...and then he tells a story about his 18-year-old grandson visiting him and playing WoW all day instead of swimming. I can't believe a teenager didn't want to have fun frolicking on the beach with his family! (But Baer blames violence and video games, subtlety)
