| I played that when it came out, having missed out on 1 & 2 back in the day, and despite being able to tough out Splinter Cell this was what finally convinced me that "slow" stealth games were not for me. I tried it again after listening to a bunch of people gush about how much they loved the thief series as a whole, and that's when I put it in the "mail to younger relatives" bin.
It shouldn't discourage you from older console titles, unless they've been horribly ported (RE4 pc springs to mind). I've been on a Gamecube renaissance since buying a Wii, and I'm pretty sure some of those have been the best I've played in a while. You know the PS2 version's like ten bucks at most, right? Anyway, I like polished 3d platformers a great deal, and I would say BG&E is probably the best mix of gameplay quality and an interesting story in that genre from that generation. The only thing I remember disliking was the tiny part of hovercraft racing which just felt tacked on. |
