Firefox 3, now in rc 1 for some time, seems pretty good by Ray of Light 06/05/2008, 11:55am PDT If, like me, you keep open a lot of tabs containing only one large jpg that you intend to wank to but haven't found the time yet, you know how bad v2 can be at this (5+second tab switch times, etc.) and you will be blown away by the performance of v3. First and last time I tried "the 3" before this (somewhere around beta 3), I uninstalled after a couple of days because almost none of the addons worked. Things have improved a little and now I have an OK subset of my v2 addons functioning: Biggest losses are Vertigo (vertical tab bar) and Greasemonkey (per-site javascript injection). Linkification (plain urls made clickable) and Menu Editor (edit context menus to not fill the whole screen) perform lesser functions but are missed as well. Sage (RSS reader) is a piece of shit and I'm happy to have a reason to seek its replacement. Remove it Permanently is a good idea that never worked too well (annoying HTML elements are usually anonymous, so RIP has to identify them by offset -- "the third DIV", "the 16th SPAN" -- and sooner or later the page layout will change and you'll be blocking something you want to see) and I will be abandoning its use. The others (Imageshack uploader, Find Toolbar tweaks, AVG scanner) are totally trivial and not worth getting worked up about.
