It's still pretty early in the game so maybe the rules change in later tiers, but right now it looks like you can wander in to the rvr zones any old time you want no matter what leval you are.
There's not a lot of reason to since the body count per minute will always be way higher in pvp, but if you just want to gank okay. RvR and public quests are both extremely cool because you actually get to play with other people as an impromptu team rather than competing for the last blue netherfel crystal in the felnether hills or whatever so you can finish a fetch quest.
Class balance in pvp is meaningfully skewed to ranged dps classes, especially (surprise!) hunter-type classes. But this is less because those classes are OP and more because of the way that pvp works in WO - when you're trying to charge at a pew-pewer, there are five guys in your face trying to keep you off the pew-pew. But we're just talking about who tops the kill meter here (oh yeah it's me btw playing a high elf shadow warrior and pwning all faces.)
Taking down a tank requires a concerted effort. One player can't do it alone, pretty much. There isn't anything like a WoW rogue - no hiding and ganking. Ranged DPS classes have minimal snares if any, so once you're in their faces, you can stay there. OTOH hunter-types can melee and the new skirmish skill trees (run-and-shoot as opposed to stand-and-shoot) mean that hunter-types now need to specialize in long-range nuke dps OR short-range disruption dps; they can even specialize in melee in a much less bullshitty way than Survival tree hunters. As a huntard 4 lyfe I'm really enjoying these new mechanics even though it means being less horribly OP.
There is no food, drink, or bandaging, no repair bills, no ammo purchasing. Bags are given to you as a consequence of levelling and they are all the same size. Potions are cheap because the raw materials are cheap and available everywhere. Casters are not dependent on mana, or rather: everyone has the same basic mana, and some classes have specialty mana that builds as they do damage or take damage and stuff like that. Death penalty is mild. There are no corpse runs. All of this means that the game is much better balanced as far as melee vs. magic is concerned. There's a lot less OOO CLOTHIES smack talk.
Actually there's hardly any talk at all. The chat options are primitive compared to WoW, although longtime WoW players will find plenty of snide little jokes in and among the emote commands. Please try /dance as soon as you log in. |
