The reason the graphics in GH3 bothered me so much is because the core of the game was broken. Shitty note charts + great songs = pissed off and looking for targets. GHWT works really well where it needs to, in the actual charts. The modifications to bass, drums, and lead guitar are all enjoyable, and the peripherals are mostly great although I'm concerned that one of my drum pads isn't registering velocity correctly (or perhaps the drum tutorial was just telling me that I'm a huge pussy).
The graphics are unattractive, but they are more in keeping with GH2. That is, cartoony rather than freakish (Judy Nails was a nightmare in 3). The interface is a mixed bag, with inexplicable choices like inventing novel and terrible ways of entering text and adding an aura of mystery to how everything is unlocked when more than one gamertag is involved.
But the gameplay is really very good, the songs are excellent, and I'm enjoying the updates to the usual mechanics. RB2 will still likely be my go to for groups (aesthetic inoffensiveness and simplicity win every time), but I can see myself getting a lot of mileage out of the single/two player. |
