House of the Dead: Overkill is good by Lizard_King 02/14/2009, 6:24am PST The reviews are accurate for the most part. + The continue system (your points just get cut every time you die, but you never have to restart a level) + The weapons upgrade/new weapons purchase system (if you don't know why this is good, I can't help) + The setting, soundtrack, and cutscenes are purposefully based around 70's grindhouse. Unfortunately for some, it's more Tarantino than anything else, but it is one of a few logical directions available for the franchise to go. It works for me, because I don't really give a shit about the source material nor do I have an internet vendetta against things Tarantino thinks are cool. Anyway... + The gore, graphics, and rumble based accuracy indicator are great. I wish wii lightgun trigger pulls were lighter, but that's about it. The boss fights are about what you'd expect in a HotD, so that's probably a negative. However, upgradeable weapons and replayable levels mean that you can have your revenge and completely smoke a bitch that was giving you trouble. Also, no QTEs automatically make them roughly a million times better than RE: Umbrella Chronicles or the slightly less offensive Ghost Squad. Four player "Horde" mode sounds promising, but I don't know if removing the upgrade/reward aspect of it is going to be sufficiently balanced out by having four shooters. I guess someone with four wiimotes can tell me.
