Starship (Star Fleet Battles for retards).
As I recall, Star Fleet Battles' rules set comprised several spiral bound notebooks, simple skirmishes took hours and hours of play, and the number of people in the world who know the full rules set is in the low double digits. Now compared to going through all that shit, if you can get the experience of imagining that you're capn' kirk blasting the shit out of klingons for a $20-something boxed game whose rules (at the expense of gratuitous "tell spock when to take a crap" REELISM) are comparatively simple to figure out...
...who really is the retard? Granted, but there is definitely some middle ground between the intensity and depth of SFB and Staship's Cross-Off Battle Damage system (for the uninitiated, Starship's ship profiles were a string of letters representing systems that would receive damage progressively, to wit: SSSSSSSSHHHHHHWWWWEEE or the like, for Shields, Hull, Weapons, Engines).
See you a month from this Tuesday, you silly fuck!
That still sounds more fun than SFB. |
