I was a piece of shit as an employee 20 years ago, I'm sure I spent entire days at work just rotating through those sites, reading, refreshing and posting on one after another. I registered early enough where I didn't have to pay and I never got banned but I did buy an ad for a game I made and a forum thread cropped up making fun of it (or maybe it was part of a larger thread making fun of everyone who bought an ad.... 15 years ago you could just buy a banner ad on a site) and I remember thinking <i>you fuckers, you'll never get another DIME from me</i> but that was every thread there. I don't know how he ran that site when he had a new problem with it every week, I have one problem maybe every 5 years. He was running a site on a different planet than most people.
