Which leads ultimately back to the Big Martial Arts Secret: it's supposed to be sport for the wealthy who will only use it against each other in Devil May Cry-style dramatic battles. They hated low, dirty, nasty shit like muay thai and were perpetually trying to elevate domestic low dirty shit like boxing into some kind of rarified art. MMA blew up that whole scene; not only did the rich warrior caste have to mix it up with all kinds of low nasty shit, they also had to mix it up with people who didn't even bother declaring a style or a school. Things like akido or karate or all kinds of crazy Chinese fighting styles with long poetic names - they were all found to be as impotent as radki. Low, dirty, evil shit from poor countries and filthy mudscrabble grappling turned out to be the kings after all.

Now we have things like Bullshido, which is the Records, Standards, and Practices wing of the low dirty evil shit fighting arts revolution. It is a wonderful age for people who want to tear ass and break things with their bare hands. Still, ever since Colt went into business, the ultimate fighting art has been: deagles/clips etc.

Anyway, the rich still have the Olympics, mostly. That should console them.
