| Isn't that the worst part? I use Poise pads, because I do use hammers to peel oranges and I use galoshes to keep my hands dry. Commercials are sick and getting sicker.
I don't know about you guys, but out here the Comcast Official Comcast channel plays You Bet Your Life and The Jack Benny Show some evenings and they are so...nice. But the freakiest bits are the commercials, because they involve pretty 40's-style girls chanting happily about the tastiness of the smoke of Lucky Strikes. Choral jingles and all! There are only white people on these shows, and they are polite and extremely well-scrubbed and the girls don't look like SLIMY WHORES and the men wear their army and navy uniforms right on the screen and talk real gentle-like. Heaven! That's probably what heaven is like. No minorities and no bad feelings. Given the current moral, social, and cultural climate, I really shouldn't say this, but New Isn't Really Better After All. Or is it? jeep is all psyched in re: that Fresian school site, and I checked it out and wrote it off in the first half second as A Good Idea Which Only Works If It Is The Only Idea. Gems include: most philosophy should be accessable to general undergraduates. I liked that one a lot and will apply it freely to other fields, like math and physics. Oh god if only. etc. etc. anyway if the modernists/post-modernists are right in that shit is just incredibly fucking complicated, maybe the Fresians are right in that it is not so incredibly fucking complicated that sense can't be made of it. But I think one side too pessimistic, the other too optimistic. The whole shebang ties in neatly with the Slate dialog between Jeffrey Eugenides and whoever else (Jeff KO'ed that other dude, crushing juggernaut style) - the effect of being fully self-aware of our own self-awareness will and must lead to navel-gazing, because until you have navel-gazed you will never understand your navel completely, and therefore you will never know to look beyond it. (People non-conscious of navels can stare at them all day or all lifetime without realizing what they are doing.) (The adolescence of philosophy.) Philosophy's tampon is political science. That's where all the sexy waste goes. |
