I don't want to fag up Qt3 with this, but:

The most predictable thing so far in 2005 is that the question as to why Gamepro sat on that letter for four years would be righetously poo-pooed by the members of a website that caters to the game journalism crowd.

Worm has been hated in every single on-line community he has ever entered. Oftentimes vehemently. But here he is simply the kid who piped up with the fact that the emperor has no clothes. Well, he's that kid with a bit of a mouth on him, anyway.

Indeed! I would like to know this as well. Reason being that the letter is dynamite. Anything this asshole has done since crafting that diatribe to Gamepro and anything written about him since ought to be viewed differently. Not that I would ever buy a 3D0 game after my experience with Might & Magic 6, but I have to assume that every negative review he got caused another howler of a rant to be generated. Maybe Gamepro told him to fuck off, but I can guarantee a short list of magazines in the last four years that would have done no such thing. Especially considering that the sort of people who write and edit these things seem to have little in the backbone department (at least when it comes to the people making the stuff they write about) and with the rate that these magazines fail, a company that ran ads as often as 3D0 probably did carry a lot of financial weight. It's certainly possible.

Of course, Worm's the asshole for wondering why we, as customers of this simply awful hobby, were left in the dark about all of this.

Wonderful. Absolutely fantastic. You'd honestly think that games were free with a fifteen minute venture into the altered reality over there. Why are you so worked up, Worm? You're a poor teenager who has to spend eight hours at the Cracker Barrel in order to afford one of these things? Who gives a shit? They're free if you write about them. This is your problem, buddy.

I know that Trip's garbage was quickly discounted to a price point approaching zero, but honestly, I think the point remains. I think any publication, be it a game mag, a newspaper or a weekly magazine ought to shut itself down if they shelve something like the letter in question. It's a very simple yet broad integrity test. I credit Gamepro for releasing it at all, but Jesus. How do you sit on that? How do you defend sitting on that?
