Somebody made a cross between Oasis and some roguelike!

It looks like a cute roguelike, and it feels somewhat like a simple, highly accessible roguelike, but it works like a puzzle game. There's only one floor to the dungeon, and it only fills one screen. And time doesn't progress except when you uncover new territory, and the monsters never move, unless you move them.

It takes 10-20 minutes per game and is fun and refreshingly hard. It's also strangely well polished for a free game. There are tons of classes to play as, and every one feels special and balanced, even though they're all just little tweaks on the same swords-and-fireballs warrior mage person. Likewise, there are only a few kinds of special attributes and status ailments and so on--but somehow every enemy uses a distinctive combination of them that fits its character. As in roguelikes, there are gods to worship, and every god judges you by just enough hidden rules to give it a clear personality (one you'll have to struggle with, in order to get your holy boons!), yet just few enough rules that you can pretty easily learn and remember them all, if you pay attention.

The main reason to progress in the game, outside a single play, is to unlock features. Working through this system is nice because it's like being taken on a tour of a well-designed dungeon-crawl engine by a super-inventive dude who is endlessly excited to show you, as efficiently as possible, every single cool thing the engine can do. It's also frustrating because eventually you run out of big things to unlock and then there's still a lot more little things left and they're cool too but they aren't worth the additional work you need to do to get them--yet you're encouraged to get them by the game's hardest modes. This seems to be a recipe for addiction and not much else.

It's basically a very good game.

Also Oasis is still awesome, for some of the same reasons.
