I agree, the worldgen has gotten way better. Although apparently snow biomes are temporarily MIA, to return again in 1.9. And also Notch hates the color red (I guess) because some maps I generate literally have zero red flowers. :( The actual for real 1.8 patch halved the number of abandoned mines that spawn, which is probably fine since just about every hole I dug ended up in a world-genned mineshaft in the prerelease. I'm sure there will still be plenty of these to find.
I take it gargamel is your world seed? Found a stronghold yet?
