I think I got my 20 bucks out of it by mark 09/20/2011, 4:49pm PDT I played it over a year ago, I guess, and haven't returned to it since. To Wagner James Au it up for a moment: Going to the Skydive server and falling past the pixel art and geometric designs, I had a weird feeling. It was how I felt when first exposed to Newsgroups, or BBSes, or Gopher sites, or image boards -- the feeling that there was an entire anonymous community that I had been completely unaware of. People had chosen Minecraft, an incredibly cryptic and limited medium, to creatively express themselves. And they were expressing themselves without any obvious monetary or social goal and almost without ego. It was just a group of nobodies generating, expecting all that they made to be razed and replaced by the time they got back. And it was persistent! It was really hard to get onto the Skydive server because everyone wanted to see what was new, and to experience the incredibly odd sensation of falling through it. The game itself is neat, but I get tired of all sandbox games fairly quickly. I almost just want to be reassured that "anything is possible!" so that I never need to play it again.
