The crafting mechanic in Terraria is stupid easy, a baby could do it by Fullofkittens 09/20/2011, 7:08pm PDT
The crafting is just there so that it takes a little while to build up the loot instead of the sweet loot just dropping off mobs.

But it doesn't matter anyways because the it's Torchlight-esque in the way you are just positively drowning in loot to make shit out of. The point of the Terraria is not to build shit, it's to go exploring. Anyone that explores for more than a couple of hours will soon have every piece of armor and weapon the game has to offer, except the couple of things that are ridiculously rare just so that a couple of things are ridiculously rare (e.g. the parts for the sand gun, which seems stupid anyway).

My coworker had a co-op game going with his 8-year old twin boys, they were Black Knights flying around in some kind of lava armor with rocket boots. He didn't give them that stuff, they just built it from the piles of stuff that were lying around everywhere.
