The thread switches between Qt3 tough guys bragging about not having to block anyone inside the pre-approved gated community -- no one there can bother them (no one left unbanned of course) -- and the opposite end of the spectrum:

I currently have twenty-six people on ignore, although I guess a few of them no longer post here anyway. It fluctuates around that number. I basically just use it as an early warning system for posts that are probably going to be really annoying, because I have a habit of reading the posts before the poster's name.

I have an OCD color-coding scheme with the Ffvb plugin. If someone recommends something that turns out to be great, makes me laugh, backs up their opinions with evidence, or is just generally thoughtful, then I increase their user highlight by a shade of green. Conversely, if someone says something that is clearly insane or self-satisfied then I increase their highlight by a shade of red. Once someone goes all the way to red I put them on ignore.
The main advantage of this system is that I don't end up putting people on ignore unless they have a completely terrible signal to noise ratio. It's also great for thread skimming, since I can just scroll down and read all the green posts. |
