Somebody floated the idea of calling them the "Pigskins." That is pretty good. That's the first time I thought a solution was possible.
Here are a few defenses of the name. Not saying I agree with them.
* You should get to call your football team whatever you want in this country. If people don't like it, they can change THEIR behavior. The constantly-offended crowd will always, constantly, be offended. Calling your team something racist is your right in America. You can be racist if you want.
* That said, the NFL touches everyone's life. But the ONLY people who should have any say in this name are, in fact, Native Americans. A lot care. A lot don't care. Native Americans are very mellow. It should not be up to the social justice crowd to change the names of franchises that people spent a lot of money on. I don't like the social justice crowd to think that they changed anything.
(I am absolutely NOT throwing you in with social tumblr activisits, HGB. I want to make that very clear. You are one of the few men that I would attempt to have a Redskins discussion with.)
I guess I only had two arguments and I am playing Devil's Advocate with them.
Hmmm. I think the defenses mostly boil down to an appeal to Dan Snyder's checkbook and a slippery slope. Dan Snyder is a piece of shit-gravel. His opinions are worthless. I kind of want to see the name of the team changed to spite him. |
