As to your actual point, it's ridiculous because it's based on the same misapprehension Reilly's column is. The objection to the nickname Redskins isn't that Indians are offended by it (and that white people must therefore object on their behalf), is that it's a racist slur and that our culture should be well past the point where that's acceptable. If Notre Dame's teams were called the Paddies or the Micks that would also wrong, however fine Irish-Americans were with it.

All the people who imagine themselves to be bravely standing up to the PC left on this are just arguing for the continued use of a racist slur, whether or not some of the people against whom it's directed want to appropriate or recontextualize it. There's really nothing more to it than that.
