| I eagerly downloaded the entire thief trilogy off GOG and installed all the fan patches that enable high resolution and bloom and a million other improvements...
...but these games are NOTHING without an Aureal 3D sound card. Using the A3D positional sound to determine the movement patterns of guards and servants while hiding in a featureless black shadow was what those games were all about, and the crucial thing that's missing from every copycat stealth game to come since. Kind of like what ICJ or Jerry said about the sound being more important than the graphics in Space Giraffe. Thanks to lawsuit scumbaggery on behalf of Creative Aureal went out of business and here we are in the future stuck with onboard sound cards that are SHIT compared to the awesome sound cards computers were rocking 10 years ago. Thus, this new Thief can't help but disappoint. |
