Everything is all Dolby this and Dolby that, but for games it's all complete shit compared to Aureal. NOBODY UNDERSTANDS. NOBODY. UNDERSTANDS. Least of all Creative, since they were too dumb to make any use of the superior technology they acquired. And the general public doesn't because they had like 3 months to buy a sound card before Aureal was sued out of business, and then XP didn't support the cards anymore.
Half-Life was the other game that used it. Didn't make much difference in the main game, but A3D + my campus LAN had people convinced I was wallhacking in Counter-Strike. Instead of releasing Steam Box, Valve should buy the patents to A3D. At least then they'd be releasing technology the public would appreciate (OOH BURN).
I just checked, and we had this conversation in 2005. More like TWO-THOUSAND-HIGH-FIVE |
