I always wanted a Vectrex, and I finally broke down and got one from eBay last week. It arrived and it came with a built-in game called "Mine Storm." In that game you kill mines, which is fantastic -- it's something I'd be all for, but living in North America I hardly have a chance to do so. Not anymore! You can only go up to the thirteenth level of Mine Storm before the game crashes, but that's still likely to be more mines than I'll ever clear. My appreciation for these old games is offset by how terrible I am at them -- for instance, I've never made it to the second board in the arcade version of Donkey Kong. I've been trying for at least 20 years and I think I've got another 20 before seeing the umbrella.
I don't know anything about games for the Vectrex, so this is why I'm posting -- what's good to get? I'll probably eventually get a hold of a multicart or ROM burner and try to download the game images to some chips and along with a ZIF socket be all set. But you don't get the overlays that way. I've heard that "Star Castles" is good, but it's somehow going for $100 on eBay, which is a bit optimistic. (Upon rechecking, I see that the guy wants it in pounds and not dollars. So much for the currency of my home. There might as well be mines on the coast considering the third world state of affairs the dollar is in.)
I'll get Berzerk, because it features the big smiley face that everyone hated before AOL made hatred of smiley faces cool, but did anyone else have one of these? What else is good for it? The "community" for this thing is terrible or in hiding.
