Windows gui frameworks have a half life of 3 years by Entropy Stew 10/05/2016, 9:07pm PDT JS frameworks have a half life of 6 months. Most of the Windows ui issues revolved around the shift to touch interfaces on mobile devices or tablets. Most of the JS explosion revolves around the following issues: Vanilla JS is not a very good language (getting better as new versions come out, though) Vanilla JS is dynamically typed Vanilla JS has almost no standard library Vanilla JS has no tooling outside of browser debuggers JS is (mostly) single threaded Access to the DOM is always single threaded and smacks into page rendering, hence all the virtual DOM stuff Vanilla JS is full of callback hell, confusing the flow of things Flash is an abortion, has been shitcanned Implementations vary across browsers JS now runs on the back end as well Fully interactive single page apps are now common Syncing a fully interactive web app requires tracking way more state in much smaller chunks App delivery is done over the web Except when it isn't because it's a local app running on javascript in a pseudo-browser like Electron This fertile field of problems is getting plowed down to the bedrock. CSS is almost as bad. -/ES/-
