Uh it's extremely simple. I don't trust the claim. I'm familiar with the person accused of saying it, and I know how easy it is to twist his words. If he said this around military guys who already dislike him, it's easy to see how they might clutch their ribbons over his stating common wisdom about the value of our sacrifice in Vietnam.

Also you asked why attacking a gold star family and McCain was bad. But first, this is not what you were saying. What were you saying again?

Do you consider yourself to be a conservative? Is agreeing with the President here okay? I don't think you can be a conservative and also have the opinion you've given here.

I assume you know exactly zero, so first off, the soldiers who went to Vietnam were drafted. Only wealthy scumbags like our terrible President managed to get out of it. Getting a doctor to diagnose you with fake bone spurs was not an option for most people.

But also, some CRAZY PEOPLE actually believe in this country and are willing to sacrifice for it. This is called "patriotism" and I'm sure you've never felt it in your life. But some people are willing, when their country asks, to give their service. It's bizarre I know!

So even though thoughts like "sunk costs" and "is this war justified" were above their pay grade, they nevertheless went out and fought and died for their country. Maybe you and our awful President can give them a tiny bit of consideration.

Back to McCain -- I think his trials and sacrifices stand on their own. Attacking him for somehow not being a war hero shows that you don't care about our country or our soldiers. Agreeing with our President makes you a brainless puppet and a sack of shit.
