If the repetition bugs you now, it only gets WAY worse later on.
This game was a neat idea but it falls apart after the initial impression. Like you said, regular fights go on way too long. It's all fodder until the bosses, at which point it turns into a puzzle fight with unknown mechanics thrown at you. It is nearly impossible to win them unless you know the gimmick ahead of time. Start over with that long slog grind again.
The town development is half baked. Very obvious what the best simple build order is. Doesn't amount to anything meaningful.
Most loadout and perks are traps. Fast damage is all that matters. If RNG doesn't provide, you're screwed.
