In case you couldn't already tell, this is essentially a wrestling game with skins of your favorite rappers replacing the like of Goldberg and one Mr. Stone Cold. Actually, the majority of the characters are fictional, with the rap stars serving ass area bosses. This seems sort of funny when you see the realistically proportioned artist dwarfed by any of the fictional roid monkies he's pitted against (which may be compensated for by the fact that Ludikris possesses some sort of Neoesque blazing kung fu).
The traditional gameplay formula for all wrestling games is here: you get a strike button that has your fighter punch or kick your opponent for light damage, but the real meat of the matches come once you grapple, after which all sorts of throws and takedowns become available.
And what moves they are; all actions are fluid and convincing in terms of momentum and centrifugal force. They also strike the perfect "Soul Calibur balance" of making the moves easy to pull off so newbie button mashers can get right into it while never degrading into total Capcom vs. Marvel anarchy since experienced players who've learned the system will have a decided advantage. Pull off an impressive move, and the camera will replay three times from different angels like so many Jean Claude Van Dam spin kicks. It also never gets overdone to the point where it gets old and intrusive.
Bonus points- After every few matches an admiring female fan will attempt to glob on to you. A catfight will then ensue between her and your current bizeeatch. You pick which one to control in a "choose your girlfriend" screen and they head to the ring to battle it out to see who can flash the most panty shots before pinning the other in a contortionist leg wrap. Winner gets you, winner IS you! There's some bonus section where you can buy photos of the ho (the real life model she was rendered after) with your prizemoney, but you'll soon discover that dumping your current girlie will automatically unlock all of her pictures, encouraging you to toss aside used goods as often as possible. 10 out of 10! |
