The article wrote:

Both Apple and Dell are guilty of using misleading prices. For example, Apple gives the price of the low-end G5 as "$1999", and the high-end G5 as "$2999". In other words, they have subtracted $1 from a $3000 computer to make it seem cheaper, which is absolutely ridiculous. This demonstrates that both Apple and Dell are willing to mislead people when stating their prices.

I guess I can't buy an Apple OR a Dell now. I can't believe they would deliberately mislead consumers like that. I feel so... victimized!

The only way the faggot in that article can defend his paragraph there would be if the last thing he had personally purchased was a box of puffed rice during the Depression. Jesus.

Someone please indulge a question from someone who has not used or had access to a Macintosh in six years: Will all applications currently available for OS X and the G4 work on a G5? (I ask, as Intel and AMD are putting together CPUs that would still be able to run a copy of Zork from 1980 and it is my understanding that Apple has not particularly cared about that level of backwards compatibility over the last twenty years.)

So far as I've seen, it's a moot point, since the G5s will have OS X and nothing runs on that yet except Word and Final Cut. But I think that anything that runs under OS X will work. Unless I'm mistaken, which is a distinct possibility.

Yes, you are indeed mistaken and a little confusing but I think I understand what you mean. 64-bit native OS code is not yet available, though OS 10.2 is 32/64 bit. Yes Apple has had a huge operating environment change with OS9 into OS X and is not stupid enough to do it again, so all current OSX applications will function great under G5s and also when OS 10.3 is released

See, this is getting into the realm of me having to explain the status of a very public, productive and lucrative platform. Because I am not a zealot, the thought of doing so makes me want to retch. All I can say is do some investigating and see that all the applications that matter have a OSX native version (Save the newest version of Premier and IE because Apple itself released products that stomp on them). Apple is more than valid, they are preferable when you strip away one single factor: "Wintel boxes are cheaper then dirt." Experience working with one and then go back to any incarnation of Windows. It’s no contest. (I should mention that I had little use for Macs outside of the workplace until OS 10.1) It's not for running Doom3, it's for hooking all your cool shit up to and processing it like a man in a Audi S8 and not a punk in a bitchen' Camaro.

I love games, I am a fag hobbyist like the rest of you and I also have an affinity for hooking shit up from scratch and making it work (something that Apple does not indulge) I will always have the best Windows box I can afford.. But as of nearly a year ago, games and professional tinkering are the Only Reasons I have any need for MS operating systems.
