Pardon my ignorance. Which Britney Spears quote?
Spears: "I think we should just trust our president in every decision that he makes and we should just support that."
I suppose she never heard about Mark Twain and the origin of the phrase "our country right or wrong."

Which is not to say that the liberal prols are really any better or, truth be told, more open-minded - but Jesus God at least you can get them to TRY to engage you on an intellectual level (this is an open call for you to name a good conservative forum if you know one, L_K).
You think I'd be here if such a thing existed? Actually, I probably still would.
It's because I have about as much in common with the average internet conservative as, well, with the screeching leftist fags that run amuck everywhere else. Eventually, the religion thing becomes an issue, or absolutism with respect to the first amendment, or something.
I used to spend some time over at Free Republic back in the day, but I could see the writing on the wall as the numerous intelligent voices of all stripes were either run out on a rail as LIBERALTARIANS HAR HAR HAR or something of the sort. It was too bad, because there used to be a real collection of characters, from pretty smart people (nonetheless nuts) who would carefully explain to you the criminal conspiracy motivating the Federal Reserve to more conventional brands of intellectuals. Plus it was a great source of news, for a long time. I think the breaking point was when I was endlessly harangued by some fruitcake about the Sami Al Aryan case.
It is entirely a question of perspective as to the relative quality of forums by ideology. A quick trip to Democratic Underground or any of those makes it clear that a slightly better vocabulary does not, in fact, make people sound more intelligent when they are saying stupid things. Perhaps you get a better reaction from them than I do...
Me, I think I'll just stick with more neutral ground, where we can all call each other fags in the spirit of reasoned debate. And then there's always Caltrops, at least until BDR short circuits it with a money shot.
Actually I used to hear some good things about Free Republic, but nothing lately. Leads me to think you might be right.
You're right about reaction, though - if you think I react in a fired up manner, try reposting a bit of your material at Metafilter. I fought pretty long and hard over there to switch the local zeitgeist from firmly anti-gun to at least half of the people being pro-gun. Took a lot of long posts and quickly jumping on any gun threads to do it, and was only possible because it's clearly a pro-liberty pro-Constitutional pro-common sense (the UK's soaring crime has painted a very clear picture of the alternative) position. Most of the things you post here would meet shrieks of outrage by 30-40 people, then maybe 2-3 posting any kind of intelligent refutation. The only reason I go there these days is because of the value of the place as a sort of 'best of' stuff like Cryptome, The Memory Hole, catching the Snopes bit, etc. - anything that even might be worth a 'hey what the FUCK?' from a reasonable person gets posted.
