You also need the right parts, Ray's post is solid and I am tapping this gibberish out on an AMD system very much like the one he describes. The value is still with AMD until you get into the $300+ range for a CPU, where you can get an Intel E6600 Core 2 duo chip* which outperforms everything else AMD has at double the cost (for now). Yes all over Nvidia's Nforce chipset. 590 is out for AM2 and Intel's Core 2 duo. If I was going to reserve recommending the Intel chip, it would be to wait for Asus to deploy an Intel board with the 590 chipset. They have. They, of course, also have Nforce 590 boards for AM2 as well.

Budget?

*you can get them cheaper from vendors whose names I never heard of. SUSPECT.
