I used to support the wireless routers for my company's marketing reps who have home offices.
I got a call from one lady who had recently moved. She couldn't get connected, just like every other marketing rep that couldn't follow the insanely complex VPN login instructions. I walk her through the steps, no luck. So the next step is to power cycle everything:
"Okay, next thing, let's unplug everything and wait 60 seconds."
WAIT
"Okay, plug in your cable modem but don't plug in your router yet."
"What do you mean?"
"... just plug in the cable modem, not the router."
"All I have is what you sent me, I don't have a cable modem. We don't get cable."
She thought that because it's wireless it just hooks into the global wireless internet.
I laughed when I got off the phone but actually she'll probably be right in ten years. |
