We have 32 oz mugs that they sell in our logo shop that say Give 'em The Pickle!.
Apparently this slogan is a legacy from when the founder of a regional chain (Farrell's) came in and told a story about how he built his business on the philosophy that, if a customer wants something and they're in good faith, go ahead and give it to them at no extra charge. Customer buys a sandwich that has no pickle but wants a pickle? Give 'em the pickle. They're sandwich buyers and we like 'em.
Gay as it sounds, I'm totally on board with the Give 'em The Pickle slogan, just as I am with our Ten Core Values and all that garbage; it makes sense and the point of it is that making your customers happy is a good business practice.
Meanwhile, our current guy saw that we have some kind of slogan that involves pickles, and immediately made it into a Stuart Smalley daily affirmation without realizing that "Give 'em the Pickle!" was probably not something bad about pickles. Also, improbable as it seemed (before!), he made it sound even more creepily sexual. I think the pickle suckers that you don't want to be like are either gays or women that fellate their partners. (Firefox says fellate is not a word?!) Point: Just like everything else (especially music), inspirational speakers are way worse than they were ten years ago.
Also I think Farrell's went out of business. |
