Lansing-Dreiden is a great band as long as they call themselves Violens instead of Lansing-Dreiden. 2a. French and Italian white girls had the right idea in 80s, and they're probably having that same idea again right now. This idea is happily taking the place of the previous dominant musical idea (British and American white boys had the right idea in 1972.) 2b. Let's just listen to the theme music from Moonlighting on infinite repeat. 3. Soft, shimmery, jazz-inflected dance music is great! 4. So is real disco with strings and bongos. Hercules & Love Affair single-handedly bitchslapped the entire Italians Do It Better stable for failing to be gay enough this year. 5. Disco doesn't have to be afraid of metal and vice versa. This was the year of unthinkable hybrids, starring Genghis Tron with guest host Yngwie Malmsteen Remixes. For me this was like one those magical years when people decide to wear tapestry vests and denim shirts with ruffles down the front, except at last it was also okay to layer the ruffly shirts!!! Except in music terms. In this year's comp we have plenty of lipservice to the prevailing winds: Year's Biggest Winners MGMT get to appear here courtesy of a remix by a dude from Violens! Thanks Violens! Italo everything gets 1984's Heather Parisi hit Crilu`! Yes there's a Gang Gang Dance track. What's not on here are all the albums that don't take well to having tracks excerpted from them on a compilation that is 125% gay disco.
