Someone who is willing to give the middle finger to public sector unions can't be all bad. Even one of our most leftish presidents, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, didn't believe in public sector unions. They're essentially conspiracies against both the government and the taxpayers.
At least private sector unions have some interest in keeping their host companies alive. If they get too greedy, then the market will correct it. Public sector unions don't have an interest in anything except getting more for their members.
If teachers, or firefighters, or whatever want higher wages and better benefits, they should try to convince the public that that is good idea. They should put a proposition on the ballot or try to influence public opinion. Holding the government hostage with backroom lobbying or power plays is the wrong way to do things.

Stuff like this is why US schools get such poor results despite spending so much money. The same bullshit applies in California where elementary school teachers get tenure after two years (until a court overturned this rule earlier this year). TWO YEARS. Imagine if you couldn't be fired from your job after spending two years there. Fuck these guys, and good for Walker for showing the spine to stand up to them. |
