Either you never saw Shakes or you're stupid beyond belief. Just a few posts ago you were lavishly detailing the shit Owen Wilson would think up when "high" - rhinestone covered fishes!!!!! - and then you come here prating about Shakes. Shakes the Clown. Sure the zaniness there is more ghetto, but it's so brilliantly solid that it knocks all your elaborate setpieces into a cocked hat. Mime school. Gas station bathroom dress sequences. Binky's Cartoon Fever. Peach flan. The milkman. Pastrami cop.
None of that is "getting high" comedy. It's a repainted, romantic, dilapidated reality, with more heft, depth, and feeling than Lost In Translation, much less a comedy about oceanographers. Out of the two - Life Aquatic and Shakes The Clown - you'd think the clown movie would be the cartoony one, but you'd be wrong. Life Aquatic is a glib pickup line in Sealab 2021. Shakes is a Charlie Chaplin movie lost in time. |
