Only instead of an old fat guy narrating what you do into nauseating repetition, the narration doesn't get old since it's custom tailored to every level. It was a neat trick, surprised no one did it before (or if they did I don't remember / never played it).
I agree that Bastion is Alright. It's a good game. The weapons were varied enough that they could dramatically change up the play style depending on which combo you picked (war machete + shotgun musket). I also liked that they didn't force weapons to fall into primary / secondary categories, and you could just pick whichever two you wanted. That was nice, so you could pick whatever two suited how you wanted to play. They give you the last ones too late, though. You get a few in the beginning, then a stretch with nothing, and then they rapid-fire the remaining ones at you in the last few levels so you don't really have a chance to upgrade and get comfortable with them. Probably would have been fine if the game was longer.
Definitely agree about the idols. I turned on 4 or 5 of them right when I first got them just for the bonuses, and it made the game much much better. One of the idols was just mean, though. The one that had enemies randomly reflect attacks. I made the mistake of turning that on before I did the girl's dream sequence and it was fucking impossible. |
