I understand hating everything, hell I SUPPORT hating everything, but I always have trouble trying to understand people who get indignant about something in one specific instance which is actually really wide-spread. War, death, and horror have been sensationalized thoroughly and have been and will continue to be one of our more profitable entertainment subjects.
Assuming he's not just making it all up, Fabio has a real problem with the exploitation of historical war locations to teach people about history, since all war is tragic and we're better off forgetting about it. It is apparently more outrageous when a museum sells a t-shirt for a five dollar profit than when multimillion dollar entertainment industry franchises display war as cool and fun. Maybe his problem is that for one you have to leave the other and the others can be delivered digitally, I understand this since walking is a real pain in the ass.
Also I guess visiting Belsen and jacking off is the same as buying a sweater at a museum in Gettysburg because people died at both places, and making distinctions between a conflict during a war and genocide is just sophistry.
Maybe the story of Lieutenant Killcount isn't as offensive to him as a museum existing because it's a fantastical tale of which no longer really relates to war and is more about using that war for what you need and then discarding it like a hooker. I guess a Bioware RPG set during the Rape of Nanking would be cool as well? I really don't understand the disconnect here, what is it about a museum over a video game that makes you scream bloody murder? |
