So I have a prediction about the software industry in general. by motherfuckerfoodeater 05/03/2012, 10:48am PDT After the Facebook IPO, acquisitions are going to start slowing down. It will either happen immediately if the IPO is disappointing, but it won't take that long even if things go well. Basically, hype won't be worth as much to Facebook, and they'll focus on sensible engineering tasks like how to run their empire on the cheap and suing people who infringe of the brand. Arguably the main place taht this is going to have an impact is in shovelware producers which, let's face it, includes 99% of dedicated mobile game producers. For a lot of these people, the hope is that if they keep producing shit hand over fist that eventually they'll get lucky and make something cool. One lucky break is all it takes to prompt a talent acquisition these days, and then you're more or less set. When Facebook slows down (and Google et. al. follow suit) a lot of those devs are going to go and get normal jobs. As a result, I don't think that mobile gaming is going to iterate itself into something bigger and better than it currently is. I think that the number of worthwhile games will stay about the same, and a lot of bit players will simply die.
