Sequences where the player character becomes mortally wounded and you must control his limping and crawling.

Horror games where the player character audibly reacts to things. It's the horror equivalent of a laugh track. I'll tell myself when to be scared, motherfucker!

Horror games using a sanity system that punishes you for daring to actually look at the neat creepy things going on. The fun insanity effects of Eternal Darkness are one thing, but every other attempt had just added annoying shit like constant heavy breathing or impaired vision/movement.

(This thread inspired by finally getting around to firing up Amnesia: The Dark Descent for the first time. I had only played the demo before and came off with a great impression since apparently they included one of the best levels in the game there. So far the full game has been boring as shit! 90 minutes in and nothing has happened! Some wind has blown a couple of candles out and the darkness scares your character which means constant heavy breathing, impaired movement, annoying vertigo effects, and annoying buzzing sounds unless you constantly use up limited light resources. The darkness in Penumbra worked just fine without all this System Shock 2 dwindling resource crap, fuckers! Maybe you should focus on making monsters themselves scary instead of bombarding me with blur effects and heavy breathing sounds every time I glimpse one.

Fuck you too, Outlast)
