I agree with everything else you said, but this is like saying that an electrician is expendable because a bunch of new grads came out of trade school. Have you had the pleasure of working on a software project with a new grad or visa worker? I am not being challenging, honestly curious. My experience is that it sucks.

Interviewed a post-grad a few weeks ago. Good kid, liked him a lot and I give him credit for applying to a job asking for five years of experience in the language we use. He wasn't familiar with design patterns. This is fine, meaning, he'll get there eventually. And we do hire for the occasional junior position, but I don't know that they are going to give the pricks quoted their comeuppance.

Something should though. But when I lived in Santa Clara there was a lot of that, and not really from people who had lived in California all their lives.
