That's the most overcomplicated description of Java I've ever read.
That was Yegge-lite. It wasn't even 10 pages long. Not a particularly good example from him, though.
Jesus Christ, no wonder it's got the reputation it has with some programmers. I think a lot of people who aren't programmers confuse Java applets, which came out 100 years ago, and the shitware Oracle includes with the jres as having something to do with the language.
I don't know how you pulled that from Yegge's blog post.
If someone has a better back end language I'd love to hear it. C# and Java are the only two serious contenders.
As always, your choice depends on your requirements:
Must be safe and quick to program in: Python, Ruby
Must be moderately fast, safe, and quick to program in despite inherent shittiness: PHP, Node
Must be moderately fast, safe, distributed, fault tolerant: Erlang
Must be fast, safe, unburdened by dependencies, and have relatively low mem usage: Go
Must be fast, safe, static, and must use up all the memory: Java, C# (actually I don't know how C#'s mem usage is compared to Java, just assuming they are comparable)
Must run on the JVM without being as shitty as Java: Scala, Kotlin
Must run on the JVM without being as shitty as Java and also be Lisp: Clojure
Must be really goddamn fast: C, C++
Must be really goddamn fast and safe: Rust (in the future)
Must be really goddamn fast and only used by like a dozen people: OCaml
Must be inscrutable to PHP dorks: Haskell
