Clearly you're upset. Not only are you ignoring my explanation of negotiation methodology and most of my links, you're responding to arguments I haven't even made. When you compared Bernie Sanders to Joe Lieberman you entered the realm of Clint Eastwood arguing with an empty chair. Neither of us know Bernie Sanders personally, but if we're judging on his voting record, your scenario that he would be the one vote to spoil public option because HULK SMASH is unfounded.
I'm going to hazard a guess that the reason you're projecting onto Bernie that he's an inflexible obstructionist is because of the Bernie or Bust crowd.
I wouldn't worry. You may recall that in 2008 toward the end of the primary Obama's people were telling Hillary supporters that it was time to pack it in and get behind Obama in the name of party unity. Hillary supporters responded by calling themselves PUMAs. That stands for Party Unity My Ass. In the end they got in line because Sarah Palin was so odious. I'm sure the leftist Bernie supporters would get in line because Trump is so odious. The independents that are sick of business-as-usual government who are behind him, I'm not so sure.
As awful as I find Donald Trump as a person and disastrous as the policies detailed on his website would prove to be, I will give him credit on one point. The media most definitely is out to get him, they've completely shed any pretense of neutrality in this fight.
So why is Bernie so cagey when reporters ask him if he'll support Hillary if he loses? Because (especially since Wisconsin) the media is out to get him as well. He doesn't want to give them the soundbite they're constantly angling for. When he said that he will do everything in his power to prevent a republican president, he's saying he would support Hillary.
You really shouldn't be so nervous. Trump will get the nomination and he will attack Hillary for her donations just as hard as Bernie. Harder, even, because he's got the receipts.
Nobody will argue that this election is Hillary's to lose. But the black vote in urban Milwaukee didn't go to Clinton at nearly the margin she was hoping for, and people were looking to Milwaukee to predict the black vote in New York. Poll gaps are narrowing as Bernie's message continues to spread, and Bernie has consistently outdone the polls this election. As they say on the Young Turks, "whisper of a dream!" |
