The POINT: Even if he's Maynards blow job buddy and tunes both guitars AND BASS GUITARS and also claps at the end of songs, he's not part of Tool, and would not be involved in Tool's legal battles. You claim that A Perfect Circle was a label dispute work around when it was not. It's just another band, and actually has nothing to do with Tool. (Except for sounding exactly like Tool)
While I'll dispute Howerdel being 'just' a guitar tech in the traditional sense, I won't dispute your main point. Howerdel's most official involvement outside of helping Jones with production for AEnima remains his remix/cover for Tool (check the 'toolshed.down.net FAQ').
