That argument expressed by that Brad guy is wrong. I can't stand NASCAR but Papyrus was making some seriously fun NASCAR RACING games for a while there. I get enough "drag racing" content in my life by driving an old Neon R/T and living in a town with almost exclusively sexually frustrated male teenagers -- yet the old drag racing "Burnout" was still a quality ware. You don't give games a free pass if they are competently stiched together even though they picked a shitty genre or activity to model like it was just their bad fortune that it's a game where you play "house" or where you're backhanding a giant tamogotchi. These things don't come out of a fucking grab bag. "Oh, shit, Anders, I'm legally and morally forced to remake Maze Craze using the Build engine MY FUCKING LUCK." Game reviewers need to have their names on all reviews and you should be able to pick one that has the same tastes as you and go from there, like movies, and they need to take a stand with the shit that's out there. At least make me hate CGW for pulling Tom Chick's negative MOO3 review and not the reviewer himself for figuring there's somebody out there who will like it, 9/10!!
Fuck, the game magazine industry is in serious trouble. It's a complete waste of time. If your first two hours are fun that's enough to get a great score and if you're a small developer with a small title only then can you get truly beat up in the press and held to some sort of higher standard that an EA or Activision release would never get.
