Afraid I agree. Everything I've read suggests that Chet is a bitter jealous dick who would have no interest in anyone seeing the forums ever again. I even thought of asking him how much money he'd need for his time to put them on a CDROM and send them to some Caltrops fag for hosting, then set up a paypal for anyone who cares enough (I'd care, I dunno, $50 or so?) to put cash into. Stinks, seeing as he took money from a bunch of people for IGR forums, but it's the only thing I could think of. This copyright crap, though, might be the high horse he stands on.
As to the license, SB you misunderstood. I'm happy to write one, but am not happy writing the one you want. Who exactly didn't want verbatim copying (with attribution) of caltrops stuff? If you absolutely must have ownership of the forums (and again I think it's a bad idea for all sorts of reasons) write it yourself, the language you used in your post is adequate.
Fuckin Chet. I can't remember seeing a single post on OMM that wasn't totally respectful of what he was doing and was/wasn't obliged to do.

In other news Wizardry 8 is great, Brute Force sucks, KOTOR will be excellent whatever that fag in Gamerasutra says.
Oh no, attribution of who actually wrote the post needs to be preserved - I wholeheartedly agree, and a proviso demanding that ES and I maintain proper attribution and never hold any of you liable for anything you post needs to be added to that SOE term.
What I don't want is some equivalent to Daily Radar spidering through the forums and putting all our collective content in THEIR forums. The CC would let them get away with that, my license wouldn't. That's all.
My license recognizes that - hey, you guys are already putting faith in ES and I with your help will eventually reach good decisions, and continues to put faith in ES and I because in any situation at least ONE of us is probably going to be the sane one so it's a pretty safe assumption that even if I go insane and pull plugs and get Chetty, at least he won't. Worst comes to worst and BOTH of us get Chetty, the rest of you still have rights to your own content and can collectively demand we release a copy of it to whatever new site the rest of you sans ES and I go off and make. The ability for us to make changes to the license in the future would generally be reserved for changing ES and I to 'ES and I and BDR or whomever' as necessary - the data only gets more likely to never be lost as time goes on, but at the same time we're protected from completely exterior forces hijacking our data.
Does this make more sense to you?
Beyond that, serious protections from liability for whomever is hosting the forums need to be written up, and the shield of satire/parody needs to be outwardly flashed like a giant cock at anyone and everyone. Again, as I mentioned, all of you probably should have a liability shield from [SB and ES and X].
God I hate law.
