There was a guy with a gigantic, perfect mohawk and then had the (short) hair on the sides of his head dyed in a cheetah print. To emphasize his point, he also wore Sex Pistols and Clash t-shirts every day. You see, he was a punk rocker.

He was the talk of the conference between my (American) colleague and myself. We hadn't seen anything like that in something like 25 years. We even thought about changing our presentation to say that we'd once considered the exact same look for Kratos.

Anyway, the last night of the conference was Thursday night, and SCEE set up all 1200 of us for a night of splendid revelry that Joe Yance can only dream about. They rented out two separate clubs solely for the conference-goers, including open bars until 3am. The next morning, I went to one of the conference organizers to get the casualty report:

2 incidents of severe foot-cutting (lots of broken glass on the floor, and a casual approach to footwear (flip-flops were common) produced the perfect podiatric storm)
1 incident of pneumonia (not immediately attributal to club-going, but still bad enough to call the guy's parents out from England)
1 incident of severe concussion (a guy turned out to be not as adept at dancing on a speaker system as he thought)
1 incident of broken wrist

It seemed the punk rocker had eschewed the Joe Yance Dance Cave-like techno thumping of the clubs and had instead gone to an arcade. There, he encountered a boxing game in which the player actually boxes, and had promptly broken his emaciated punk-rock wrist (obviously not enough time spent practicing his Joe Strummer power chords). In the hospital, he was especially distraught because the daily maintenence of the mohawk demanded two working hands, and now it would have to lie flaccid across his head, like so much hair-penis.
