I haven't read the post for people who didn't see episode 2 because, well, I didn't see episode two.
Saddly, this show falls into a black hole in my week as I'm almost never home Wednesdays between 8-9, my VCR is busted and I don't have Tivo or DVR. That said, I did catch the first 1/2 of the first episode and I did catch all of last night's episode and I'm bummed that I'm not going to be able to see the rest because I'm digging it.
Based on a review I heard of it, I think the one dimensional character thing is actually intentional. Apparently, as the season progresses we start finding out that our first impressions were wrong. No one is who they seem to be and figuring out just exactly who these people really are is supposed to be one of the show's stronger points. (Whether or not they actually pull it off well is another thing all together, though the reviewer thought they did.)
And, of course, the super natural element is the other twist. (My almost certainly false theory after watching last night -- they all died and the island is a sort of purgatory where they get one last chance to prove themselves one way or the other. Biggest hole in this theory? At least two people seem to have died already without having proven much of anything. Maybe they were purgatory equivalents of NPCs. Or maybe they just suck at the purgatory game and are being sent to hell by default for dying on level one.)
