Welcome to Lost. Look at me leading off the charge at the top of this thread. So excited and naive. A TV show about mystery and wonder and maybe monsters! No, it's a show about interesting people wrestling with their demons. Not demons from hell like the one that ate the pilot of the plane, but the extra scary figurtive demons like "why didn't my father support me?" or "my wife and I don't get along".

I have a friend who continues to (angrily) watch the show, and once in a while I'll ask what happened on Lost this week and he (angrily) says "nothing really", or sometimes "fucking nothing".

Armed with those updates, I checked back in on Lost halfway through the first episode of season 2, and holy shit, they were going to investigate that trapdoor that I've heard so much about. Even that couldn't hold my attention, but I caught the last 5 minutes, which is where things happen on Lost episodes -- and there's a dude with a gun down the trapdoor! And computers! So that's exciting, right? Maybe I should watch the show again. Episode 2 showed us episode 1 but from Kate's perspective! I'm out again!

Worse than how glacial the show moves, I think I hate how it's so highly regarded. Stretching a Twilight Zone episode to span 30 hours isn't good writing, it's a rip off of our precious time, but people eat it up like so much meatloaf with cereal filler. It's like the "chronology jumble" technique that some films use to make their story less boring. 21 Grams is a mediocre movie but if you mix up all the scenes and make the audience work to figure it out it's suddenly SO INTERESTING AND COMPLEX HMMMM.
