So you're still letting other people control what you listen to, and you'll continue in your cootie-like superstitious belief system even when you admittedly have no clue what you're talking about.
That's so stupid and unnatural it makes Stoo look like Euell Gibbons.
So, your evidence that I "let other people control what I listen to" is the fact that I don't take music recommendations from you? I'm not going to listen to what you recommend, simply because what I have heard of what you like was all bad music. It could be good and it could be bad - if somebody whose taste I trust tells me it's worth my time to examine it, maybe I will. In your case, no.
All I said about what *I* listen to is that I have no interest in discussing it here (though I did give an extra secret hint that I like The Books). There's a long list of bands that I like, some of whom I recommend to some people. The people on this forum, whose tastes I know pretty well, would not enjoy most of it. When I come across something that say, creativepig or stew might like, I typically post a quick review to it, and I don't know if they ever listen to it, and I don't care if they do or not. If people aren't into what I like, it's their loss, and I'm past the point in my life where I want to expose people to new bands or be exposed to new bands by other people.
If my existence taints fields of music for people, that's not actually my problem at all. I don't get any prizes for treading carefully over your delicate net of neuroses and retarded branding needs. Besides, my concept here isn't to sell anything to anyone. It's all free and contains no hidden idea-poison. Nothing in an album will turn you into Zseni. Liking the same music as Zseni still doesn't turn you into Zseni, just like disliking all of Zseni's music doesn't cleanse you of all possible Zseni-like characteristics. I'm not an alien and I'm not after your fucking crystal shard.
It's actually not free, BTW - it's stolen. It's not exactly the same thing. I will sometimes download stuff that I can't find in stores but I'm not really stoked about some stranger asking me if I want some of their stolen beer, even if it is beer I would normally try. I might not have a perfect record of not stealing music, but if a band was good enough that I would recommend it to someone, I would recommend that they buy it, to support the artists that you're getting all this enjoyment from. As it is, you're not really trying to support the artists; you're trying to create an image for yourself as the type of person that recommends said artists.
Rather than a Manichean good-versus-evil, cool-versus-clumsy style duality - endlessly and pointlessly rehashed throughout the centuries - I have a humanist concept in mind where it's possible to just disagree with someone without attempting to expel them from the human race. Music forums are a good place for this concept! Because there really isn't any good, firm, logical rock on which to stake your position - there are only more eloquent and less eloquent exponents. You can keep trying to make a Law Of Coolness happen with me, but I'm not going to go along with it.
I'm not the one pushing the coolness idea, I don't know what cool means and I don't care about it. I do know bad music when I hear it and I don't want to waste my time listening to bad music. I've listened to music you recommended before and it has always been bad, and I don't have all day to listen to garbage. If I get 25 minutes a day to listen to music I'm going to listen to stuff that probably *is* good, as opposed to stuff that almost definitely isn't. |
