Back in the day:
- Arcade, text adventures, first person shooters, football/hockey/baseball, RPG, a tiny bit of RTS. I'd buy adventure games but never finish them or get very far. That was brought to light with this link in the 2000s, but that feeling had been there for a while. (Tdarcos, if you get a chance to read that article, I think you'll enjoy it.)
Today...
I don't play football or hockey any longer. I hate the Madden series and they got an exclusive license. I played hockey games several times a week from like 1992 until ... 2005 or so. I just got burned out. Probably for a lifetime. I play Diamond Mind Baseball, but that doesn't have moving graphics.
I like cyberpunk games, regardless of what genre of computer game they are. I'll play a FPS with a story that interests me. I can't beat anyone with RTS games, so that feeling of being a failure all the time is grating. I haven't exactly seen an adventure game that made me care about the genre again. RPGs are still, in theory, fun. Day[9] played the opener to Skyrim. I could see getting into that.
The guy above me said he likes licensed games, but I think that might have been a mde-up post.
