Looks like these might be new ports after all. My objections: mooted? by Jerry Whorebach 06/22/2012, 2:25pm PDT

PlayStation.Blog: How about the first two games – was anything tweaked there for PS3?

Eric Webb, Producer, Doom 3: BFG Edition: They are pretty much straight ports, but I will say that they run really fast at 60 frames per second, even with four-player split screen play going on. If you’ve got a big TV that’s really going to stand out. The guys basically wrote it from scratch to get it working on PS3.

The old XBLA ports were capped at 30 (or was it 35?) FPS, just like the original DOS versions. This leads me to believe these are going to be entirely new source ports, and if we're REALLY lucky, they might even let us configure our controls. I just hope they retain the No Rest for the Living bonus episode from XBLA Doom II (which, as I believe I mentioned, is very good indeed). And as long as I'm making wishes, how cool would it be if they unleashed the AWESOME POWER of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 to make the MIDI music sound like it was running on high-end period hardware, instead of a fucking AC'97 codec?
